Barilla Spinach (Tetragonia implexicoma) native to our southern coastline. First Nations Australians and by early settlers ate the fresh leaf as a source of vitamin C to ward off scurvy.
Crystal Ice Plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) grows in sand dunes and sea weed deposits. Rich in minerals (calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron), vitamins, and bioactive compounds like polyphenols, flavonoids, and D-pinitol.
Seablite (Suaeda australis) grows in salty mudflats and saline estuaries . Contains iodine, minerals (calcium, iron), and protein.
Karkalla (Disphyma crassifolium) is a good source of vitamin B6, fibre, Beta carotene, and lutein as well as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Widely distributed on coastal dunes and samphire flats, on rocky seaside cliffs, and in various saline soils inland.
Warrigal Greens (Tetragonia tetragonioides) thrives in coastal areas, sandy soils, and dunes and boasts exceptionally high levels of Vitamin K , significant amounts of Vitamin C, B6, manganese, and antioxidants. It is a good source of fibre, iron, calcium, and potassium.
